Dear Parents and Carers

The children all seem to have enjoyed getting in the pool this week and it is good to see how confident they are. This is brilliant evidence of the worth of the pool so the children all have the chance to learn this vital life-skill.  My thanks go to the PTFA who help support the funding of the pool, and to all the staff who have given up their time for the training and who make sure the pool itself is well-maintained and a safe place to swim.

Athletics

It was a privilege to take more than half of Key Stage 2 to Yeovil on Wednesday for the North Dorset Athletics Festival, where our children had the chance to compete against children from other schools and see what it’s like to race on a proper running track. They all tried very hard, and were particularly successful with their Year 4 Relay (1st), Year 4 Boys 60m (Joel – 3rd), Year 6 Girls 150m (2nd – Rose) and Year 6 Girls 600m (1st – Katie U). These three children will now be heading for the County Finals in Bournemouth in a fortnight’s time – I am sure they will try equally hard there. Congratulations to all the children who attended, and once again they behaved brilliantly and were a credit to the school.

Kwik Cricket

The children have really enjoyed their extra Kwik Cricket coaching sessions provided by the Stour Provost Cricket Team this term; huge thanks go to Mr Heasman and his team mates for all the time they gave up. In order to further the children’s interest in the sport, there is a special event coming up in the village – please see the note below:

On Friday 13th July at 5:30pm, Stour Provost Cricket Club are hosting a fun Kwik Cricket evening, open to all. There will be a chance for anyone that wants to, to have a bat and a bowl. Maybe even bat with your son or daughter. There will be a BBQ. Following the success of the Kwik Cricket sessions at the school, it will be great to welcome as many families as can make it to the cricket club. If you can make it, then please let Claire Heasman (heasmans@btinternet.com) know so that we can make sure we have enough food for the BBQ!

This week’s Stars of the Week

Conkers: Gilbert for talking about how to keep our bodies healthy.

Acorns: Thomas W could express how he feels when change happens.

Chestnuts: Annie for being able to explain the changes that happen to animals as they grow.

Oaks: Corleigh for understanding about tolerance when building friendships.

Well done to all the children.

Next week we have the Year 5/6 Residential Trip to Bristol – the children are getting very excited – and the rest of the school visits Kingston Maurward on Tuesday. Fingers crossed that this lovely weather continues. In a few weeks’ time we will be putting on our Musical Production of The Wind in the Willows; full details will follow but in the meantime, please be on the lookout for tops and trousers in shades of brown, fawn, beige, taupe etc. for your children to wear as a range of woodland creatures.

With best wishes

James Stanford
