Dear Parents and Carers

GDPR

In previous surveys and other feedback you have consistently said how invaluable you find the ParentMail text and e-mail service for keeping you informed of school news and reminders of events happening. Because of changes to the law (GDPR) we need to seek your permission again to keep using this service. You will be receiving this newsletter as a paper copy because your agreement for us to send you information and updates, as requested in last week’s newsletter, has not been received. ParentMail does not, unfortunately, allow a ‘reply’ service, so we need you to complete and return the slip below via the office or e-mail to office@stowerprovost.dorset.sch.uk or as soon as possible to enable us to continue contacting you via ParentMail. As I wrote in last week’s newsletter, I will be letting you know next half term about the data we keep, what we use it for, and how you can opt out of various aspects.

Local Farm Visit

I have heard many hugely positive reports about the Conkers’ and Acorns’ Classes trip to the Udder Farm Shop this week. It seems as though the children had a great experience, learnt lots about the provenance of the food on their table, and, once again, were a real credit to the school. Well done to all the children for being such great ambassadors for our school in the local community!

 Sporting Achievements

Many of our children in Year 6 have also had the chance to represent the school this week, as they went to the Sherborne Cricket Ground for a local Kwik Cricket Competition. Putting into practice their skills learnt during coaching sessions with the Stour Provost Cricketers, our children performed very well and, once again, made us feel very proud of them. Thanks go to all the parents who transported the children and to Miss Martin who looked after them and was on hand to give last minute tips.

You will be sorry to learn, therefore, that Miss Martin will be leaving us shortly after the half term holiday, to take up a new post in an early years setting in Gillingham. I am sure you will join me in thanking her for her many years of dedicated service to Stower Provost Primary School, and in wishing her every success for the future.

Swimming

Preparations for the ensuring the swimming pool is ready for service are well under way. The water is beautifully clear, is warming up and, on the lovely days we have had this week, has been very inviting. A delay in some essential staff training means we will not be starting swimming until the end of the first week back after half term at the earliest, but from then on we will try to get the best use of the pool as we can. As a result, please make sure the children have ready, for the week beginning 4th June, everything they need for swimming, including appropriate, named costume, towel and hat, and that they are able to remove earrings before each swim. A timetable showing fixed swims will be sent home at the beginning of that week, but we will also try to get children into the pool at every opportunity.

After school swimming sessions, £1:00 per session to 4:00pm, bookable and payable in advance, will start the week beginning 11th June, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school.  If you are interested in helping poolside and would like to join us for the training on Monday 4th June 3:30pm – 5:30pm, we have a couple of free places. Please e-mail the office as soon as possible so I can allocate the places and forward you the details before the event.

Pupil Health and Well-being 1: the Car Park

Please make sure you drive with absolute care and dead-slow on the school car park at all times. Also, please do not leave your engine running at the beginning or the end of the day while waiting in order to cut down on fumes, noise and pollution. Thank you for your support in this.

Pupil Health and Well-being 2:  Birthdays

During the last Parent Forum, the subject of Birthday cakes was raised, mainly concerning ingredients. As you know, all food served at lunchtime is processed in a nut-free environment, as is any cooking done at school. With a number of children here allergic to nuts, it is important we do what we can to ensure no nut products come into school. Therefore, from now on, please do not send your children into school with birthday cake to share on their special day; we will mark the occasion in our usual way by singing to them on the Friday following.

This week’s star pupils

Congratulations to the following children for their hard work this week:

Conkers: Alfie for explaining what being a friend means.

Acorns: Esme for being able to explain who is special to her and why.

Chestnuts: Tristan for being able to get on with everyone in Chestnuts.

Oaks: Joe for always trying to help others and support people in class.

Well done to all of you!

James Stanford
