Ancient Egyptian cooking

Ancient Egyptian cooking

As part of our creative curriculum theme – Ancient Egypt, last week we made fig cakes in the traditional way.

First we mixed figs (dates) and water into a paste.

Then we added cinnamon, cardamom and walnuts and gave them a mix.

Next we used our hands to shape the mixture into ball shapes – we really enjoyed this as we got all sticky!

Then we rolled the balls in honey and chopped almonds.

Finally we placed them into a cake case and put them into a bag to take home.

Some of us really enjoyed eating them at home with our families but others really didn’t like them!!

The smell of the spices were amazing and Mr Marshall paid us a visit because he wondered where the smell was coming from!
