Our Curriculum
We would like to think at Stower Provost we have a refreshing perspective, as most curricula focus on the what and the how, but completely ignore the why. When learners understand the purpose behind a skill, they transition from passive memorisation to active mastery.
At Stower Provost we offer a well-planned, sequential curriculum for pupils, which offers hands-on practical opportunities, so that learning is made as real as possible, and where pupils can relate their learning to situations they will come across in life.
We hope, giving context as to why one is learning a piece of knowledge or a skill, gives children a deeper and broader understanding.
Our curriculum progresses from Reception to Year 6, with long term plans ensuring progression, breadth and depth.
English is taught with the use of books and a range of written genre as stimuli.
The Mastering Maths programme (NCETM) is used within Reception and Key Stage 1 classes. This national programme aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all pupils.
In Key Stage 2 the progression of the White Rose Maths programme is used to ensure all elements of the curriculum are covered in a progressive manner, with support material from a range of sources supporting learning.
The Cornerstones Curriculum provides a progressive plan for all classes, and encompasses subjects including RE, history, geography, science, design and technology and art and design. Children build knowledge and understanding over time, while being offered rich, broad and engaging content.
