Subjects

At Stower Provost Community School pupils within Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, with those in Key Stage 1 and 2 following the National Curriculum.

Pupils with specific needs may follow individualised programmes that are appropriate for their stage of learning.

The EYFS framework covers 7 core areas of learning for children from birth to five. These are divided into; a) 3 Prime areas and b) 4 Specific areas.

The 3 Prime areas are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Person, Social & Emotional Development

The 4 Specific areas of learning are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Subjects covered by the National Curriculum in KS1 and KS2 are:

  • English
  • maths
  • science
  • design and technology
  • history
  • geography
  • art and design
  • music
  • physical education (PE), including swimming
  • computing
  • ancient and modern foreign languages (at key stage 2). We teach French.

Primary schools must also provide:

  • relationships and health education
  • religious education (RE)

We also teach:

  • personal, social and health education (PSHE)
  • citizenship
  • sex education
