Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful sporting afternoon we have had, with children enjoying a rotation of activities including running, jumping, throwing and of course a traditional egg and spoon race. It was lovely to see so many at the event, and the positive vibe was evident, with children cheering on and supporting their classmates. Thank you to all who made this afternoon so special.

THIS WEEK

Tutankhamun Museum Trip

Year 3 and 4 pupils thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Tutankhamun Museum in Dorchester last Friday. Children gathered information as they made their way through the museum, seeing ‘mock’ interior rooms found inside Tutankhamun’s tomb. Upstairs there were an array of replica mummies, which the pupils’ found fascinating. There was also time to visit the shop. Lunch was enjoyed in the park, and I must congratulate all their behaviour and consideration to others be this, inside the museum, in the park or walking up and down Dorchester from the car park.

Friends of Stower Provost Jumble Sale

Many thanks to all who donated clothes, plants, cakes, time and effort into the Jumble Sale which ran last Saturday. An amazing £450 was raised.

Hero Day for Year 6’s on Tuesday 20th May.

Year 6 pupils thoroughly enjoyed their Hero Day and dressing up in a variety of costumes. My thanks for all for their financial donations, which will be sent on to World Vision.

 Beech Class

Year 2 pupils in Beech Class sat their optional SATs this week. All pupils should be really proud of their efforts and focus during these tests, which assess reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling, as well as Maths including reasoning and arithmetic. As with the Year 6 SATs, these assessments do not consider the boarder elements of pupils’ abilities not their performance within the broader curriculum, in which we know so many of our pupils thrive and excel.

Sports Day

What a lovely afternoon we had for our Sports Day, and it was super to see pupils wear t-shirts of their house colour.

This year saw a number of parents picnicking on the field and then enjoying the afternoon of sporting activity. My thanks to those who came to watch, and my congratulations to Duncliffe House who won the event and were awarded our Sports Day cup.

CLUBS

Lego Club

This week was our last American build and the children were challenged with building the Golden Gate Bridge. The children worked together to complete the bridge that spanned between two tables!

Coding Club

This will be carrying on after half term but will start the second week back (w/c 9th June). (Miss Buxton)

TESTS

Chestnut Class

All Year 4 pupils will sit their statutory multiplication test in the week after half term.  This test is administered online, on a 1:1 basis. Children have 5 seconds to answer 25 random times table facts. Timetable practice over the half term would be greatly appreciated, be this on Timestable Rockstars or by alternative means!

Beech Class

Year 1 pupils in Beech Class, and those who did not pass the test last year, will sit the Year 1 phonic assessment during the week of 9th June.  These are administered on a 1:1 basis.

Uniform timetable

I thought it would be helpful to highlight days the children should be doing sporting and/or Forest School activities. If swimming kit could be in school daily this would be helpful, as we may well take the opportunity to swim on days not shown on the timetable below.

Please note swimming kit includes: costume, towel and a swimming hat please. A hat is really important as hair does have a tendency to block the filter system, with hats reducing this issue.

Easy Fundraiser

There is no time like the present to download the Easy Fundraising app on your phone, and raise funds for the school without having to do anything, other than going through the app to make online purchases.

Remember friends, family and businesses can all use our Easy Fundraiser page too. Larger items like insurance and travel can also be purchased through the Easy Fundraiser page.

You can raise even more money by asking others to join the community fundraising effort – use the QR code!

How it works: easyfundraising partners have over 7,000 brands who will donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice. It won’t cost you any extra. The cost is covered by the brand.

So why not help the school raise money and make your online purchases through the Easy Fundraising app?!

CLASS NEWS

Oak Class

We have been diving into independent writing this week. The children have impressed me with their skills and dedication as they have applied themselves to the challenging task of re-writing the Hindu story of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk using dialogue to advance the action and to show character.  On the subject of Hinduism, we have been finishing the lessons about Hinduism this week – looking at the Kumbh Mela, the ideas of pilgrimage and devotion, karma, and the life of a Naga sadhu or Naga sadvis (female). We also showed off our knowledge by completing out sticky knowledge questions. Next term, we are looking forward to finding about more about the slave trade. (Mrs Clasby)

Chestnut Class

This week was packed with lots of learning across all subjects! In Maths, we sharpened our skills with practice in time and decimals. Science brought hands-on fun as we successfully built “homemade switches,” putting our previous knowledge into action. In English, we explored “inverted commas” and the crucial role of commas within these sentences. Finally, in Computing, we finished strongly by creatively changing pictures through combining cropped elements. (Mrs Sanda)

Beech Class

Another half term done! Well done to all the year 2s on their KS1 SATs. Well done to all of Beech for their efforts in sports day!

We have enjoyed lots of swimming and PE this week along with bug hunting in forest school. Enjoy your half term! (Mrs Whelan)

Hazel Class

This week Hazel class have swum like fish and run like cheetahs! We’ve had a very busy week practising for sports day. We have also rounded up our animal topic by looking for mini beasts and investigating camouflage. We looked at the life cycles of butterflies and how ants work as a team to achieve big tasks.
