Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another busy week at school with the swimming pool in full use, a hum of activity within classrooms and children enjoying the outdoors, and there’s more fine weather on the horizon. Looking at the forecast for next week, please would all ensure their children have slip, slap and slopped the sun lotion before school and have a hat and water bottle in school.

THIS WEEK

Flower Festival at Stour Provost Village

Pupils’ work was displayed within the church for the Stower Provost Flower Festival last weekend. My thanks to Mrs Berwick for raising funds for the school through the sale of plants at the event.

Larmer Tree Activities

Year 4 and 5 pupils enjoyed sessions with music and drama professionals last Monday, from the Larmer Tree, supporting their samba and poetry reading skills prior to the festival on 15th July.

Oak Class Science Experience

A past pupil of the school, returned to deliver a science experience to pupils in Oak class. The focus was light and light refraction. The session was highly engaging and informative, with many pupils commenting on how they were fascinated by the light boxes, or feel inspired to learn more. My thanks to Will who delivered such an enlightening session for the children.

CLASS NEWS

Oak Class

This week, we have been looking at metric measures and revising for our PUMA maths tests later on this week. We have enjoyed the vagaries of the imperial system and compared notes about both. In English, we have been completing spelling and SPAG tests, as well as our PIRA reading tests. We have worked jolly hard! In DT we have been looking at Make Do and Mend, and exploring the history behind it. We loved the clipped accents and ingenious ideas. In an era of built-in obsolescence, the children were intrigued by the idea of mending things, rather than throwing them away.  In computing, we have looked at ideas for designing our own house using the 3d modelling program, Tinkercad.

Next week, we are looking forward to improving our performance skills to enhance the play as well as studying the global impact of our throwaway culture – including the Right to Repair movement and the consequences of fast fashion. (Mrs Clasby)

Chestnut Class

Our young scientists have been immersed in the exciting world of programming technology! Using Micro:bits, they’ve explored what it’s like to bring technology to life, and it’s been a huge hit, sparking everyone’s imagination.

In History, we journeyed back in time to compare the hierarchies of Ancient Egypt and Ancient Sumer, gaining fascinating insights into these early civilizations.

And in Maths, we’ve successfully concluded our Money topic! This week, students put their financial literacy to the test by solving various money-related problems.  (Mrs Sanda)

Beech Class

This week has been another busy week in Beech Class, the children have been working super hard doing assessments. In English the children have written a short non-chronological report about hibernation similar to that seen in our book ‘A winter sleep’.  In Maths, the children have been looking at telling the time to the hour following on from telling the time past the hour last week.

During the afternoons, Beech Class have learnt more about Henry VIII and continued to add to our understanding of food chains with ‘producers’, ‘consumers’ and ‘APEX predators’. In addition to this, they have looked at why Muslims visit Mosques in RE. (Mrs Whelan)

Hazel Class

We have been learning about pirates, which has involved following a treasure map and finding treasure, creating our own treasure maps and learning to dance like a pirate. The children have enjoyed two swimming sessions this week, and have swum like little fish! We have been practicing the songs for the play, particularly the Wellerman because it fits with our pirate theme. (Miss Buxton)
