Newsletter 28th November 2025
December 2, 2025 Sandy Pike

Dear Parents and Carers,

Some important news items to start the newsletter this week, so do please respond to each as necessary.

Speed Limit

We have been approached by the parish councillors to support a speed reduction zone around our school to 20 mph, for the safety of our children. If you have an objection to this, please contact the school office, otherwise it will be understood that you agree with this idea and are behind the school giving this motion its full support.

TEP SURVEY

My thanks to 7 parents/carers who have already completed the TEP parental survey. For those who have not yet completed the survey, I would urge you to take 10 mins of your time to share your views.

The Engagement Platform (TEP) is a research-led engagement tool that will help us better understand your experience by gathering your feedback.

Please follow this link to provide us feedback on your experience

Start survey here: https://questions.tep.uk/stower

Deadline for feedback: Friday 5th December 2025

The survey will take around 10 minutes to complete, and can be completed on your phone, tablet or computer. We want to hear all views – both positive things and areas for improvement. Your honest feedback helps us understand how to support all families better.

Your feedback will also be used to help understand how parents and carers feel across the country. This national research is undertaken by The Engagement Platform and is completely anonymous. It helps improve things for all families.

Please see the attached full letter for further information.

HOMEWORK

A plea to all regarding homework. My thanks to all parents who are supporting their children with hearing their children read (regardless of age) and completing homework. There is a strong link between children who are supported by parents/carers in this way, and pupil attainment level.

Please would all parents/carers take 10 mins to hear their child read each day and support as necessary with homework. Your child(ren) will certainly benefit from your input and engagement.

YOUR SUPPORT

My thanks to all who donated and supported the following causes as we raised:

Children in Need – £75.52

Jeans for Genes day – £48.40

EASY FUNDRAISER

With Christmas just around the corner it is an ideal time to download the Easy Fundraising app on your phone, and raise funds for the school without having to do anything, other than going through the app to make online purchases.

Remember businesses can use our Easy Fundraiser page too. Larger items like insurance and travel can also be purchased through the Easy Fundraiser page.

You can raise even more money by asking others to join the merry throng – use the QR code!

How it works: Easyfundraising partners have over 7,000 brands who will donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice. It won’t cost you any extra. The cost is covered by the brand.

So why not get organised and make those Christmas purchases online through the Easy Fundraising app!

CLASS NEWS

OAK

Well – fractions are here! We do LOTS of fractions in Oak – they are a vital part of the SATs curriculum both in reasoning and arithmetic. This week, the children were challenged with equivalent fractions – a good knowledge of times tables is essential here! In English we have been finishing our SPAG tests, as well as writing a narrative excerpt based on Mr Morris. In science, we looked at the phases of the moon, and used lots of vocabulary such as waxing, waning and gibbous. Geography involved a discussion about settlement hierarchies, as well as a looking at motorways. The children were very surprised at how few cars used to use them. Next week, we are looking forward to finishing off our RE and science topics with sticky knowledge – just how much have we learnt and remembered?

 CHESTNUT

This week in Chestnut Class we have been working hard on our multiplication knowledge, looking at the relationship between 3 and 6 times tables. We have learned some catchy rhymes to help embed this knowledge which I’m sure the children would love to share with you at home!

In English, we are coming to the end of Stig of the dump and the children have been loving making predictions about how the story will end. They have been spotting different parts of speech as we read and can becoming more confident when recognising adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions and nouns. Go Chestnut Class!

For RE, the children have enjoyed learning about the symbolism of the Hindu God, Ganesh. The statues that they made last week are looking fabulous and they are excited to take them home and discuss their features with you.

BEECH

This week’s writing has been all about reinforcing the basics of punctuation within sentence writing as well as conjunctions to join two clauses together.  In Maths this week, Year 1’s have been working with bar models, part wholes and subitising up to 5 which is a key skill for Year 1. Year 2’s have been looking at addition and subtraction across multiples of ten using out knowledge of number bonds to support us.

In other learning, the children have been looking at the difference between someone being unkind, someone teasing and someone bullying in PSHE as well as having an introduction to Mohammed from Saudi Arabia 1400 Years ago in RE. The children also thoroughly enjoyed exploring outside for our ‘Outdoor Learning’ session this week we did an Autumnal Scavenger Hunt which the children enjoyed.

HAZEL

This week has been jam packed with nativity practices, singing practices and lots of fun learning opportunities. The children learnt about the artist Jackson Pollock and created their own art using his paint drip method. We have started investigating decay, we learnt about mould and what could happen to our pear as it decays. The children have been doing a lot of work on words starting with… for example we played a What’s in the Bag game where the children pulled an object out the of bag but had to say a word that started with the same sound. We learnt about Diwali and made transient Diwali art using natural objects and Diwali patterns using coloured rice.
