Chestnut Class investigate melting points

Chestnut Class investigate melting points
November 19, 2020 Kate Hillam

Years 3 and 4 are investigating the properties of solids, liquids and gases. This week we have been looking at melting points of different materials and understanding that the strength of the molecular bond dictates how quickly a solid material becomes a liquid. We made predictions about which materials would have the highest and lowest melting points. We tested our thoughts by exposing the materials to increasingly hot water. By looking at the materials – not touching, and definitely not tasting the chocolate or haribo:( – we were able to conclude that ice has the lowest melting point and Haribo the highest.
