Commonwealth day celebrations

Commonwealth day celebrations
March 15, 2016 Ailsa Boardman Hirst

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Olympic gold medalist Peter Wilson to help us celebrate Commonwealth day.

Peter brought his gold medal to show pupils and spoke at length about his journey to the Olympics in 2012.

This was followed by a ceremony on the field where Mr Marshall and Peter read oaths to celebrate the day and the new flag pole and flag which had kindly been gifted to the school by the local parish council.

Competition winner Ollie was on hand to hoist the flag with Peter and presented him with a gilded coin from the 2012 Olympics as well as a copy of his winning design.

Many thanks to all of the parties that helped to make this day such a special event. The pupils and staff had an enjoyable morning.
