CLASS NEWS

Oak Class

This week, we have been busy as usual. We have been consolidating our arithmetic skills – there is more work to do with this subject, however! We have been making Egyptian flatbread which ‘proved’ very challenging as there was so much proving time. However, despite a fine dusting of flour over the Oak classroom, all was done successfully in the end thanks to the heroic efforts of Mrs Rowley and  Mrs Harris, as well as a very skilled team of year 6 cleaners – thank you to them, too! Meanwhile, Mrs Sanda led the year 4s and 5s on an art, acting, drumming and poetry festival led by staff at the Larmer Tree gardens near Shaftesbury. Many children expressed their excitement at being in a festival with over 400 other children. The Stower Provost children were a credit to you all as usual and performed their poem Sailing off to Singapore (Ken Nesbitt) from memory.  As a finale, the children watched ‘Goodnight, Mr Tom’ as part of their history topic. The children found the film to be enjoyable, and had many interesting points to make and questions to ask after the film. Next week, we are looking forward to honing our performance skills for the end of term assembly. (Mrs Clasby)

Chestnut Class

What an exciting and varied week Chestnut Class has had! We had a fantastic trip to the Larmer Tree where the children represented Stower Provost superbly. Their behaviour was exemplary and their public speaking was very impressive. It was a brilliant day out!

In school the children have written Biographies of Tutankhamun where they were able to show off their knowledge of Ancient Egypt as well as their writing language skills. In Maths, we have been looking at presenting data and interpreting information from bar charts.

Most of the class are off on an exciting trip to Gillingham for an Athletics event today an we are sure the children will do us proud. Go Chestnut Class! (Ms Gardiner)

Beech Class

In English this week, Beech Class have been designing their own characters, settings and ideas for stories. Through this, the children have written a character description and a scene description based on pictures they produced ready to write their story next week. It has been lovely to see all the enthusiasm for writing.  In Maths, the children have been looking at volume, capacity and temperature ready to move onto position and direction over the last couple of days.

During the afternoons, Beech Class have been watching the caterpillars grow, turn into chrysalides and harden before they metamorphize into beautiful butterflies. We have also been looking at Royal Portraits and the different characteristics they show in order to create their own portrait with a purposeful pose and facial expression.  (Mrs Whelan)

Hazel Class

This week has been a busy week with the children writing their own version of Oi Frog and practising our rhyming words; and in maths we have been working on numbers to 20 and creating odd and even numbers. We have been talking about transition and moving up in the school, talking about their early memories of school and what they have enjoyed the most, it has been lovely to hear them reminiscing and reminding each other of different memories.  (Miss Buxton)
