FORTHCOMING EVENTS

FRIENDS/PTFA MEETING

The next Friends of Stower Provost Meeting will be held on Tuesday 4th November at 19.30, with the venue to be confirmed.

Please find attached the first Friends/PTFA newsletter.  Within the newsletter it mentions about the possibility to purchase Christmas cards. We have been very fortunate for our neighbour, Tim to be willing to share the copyright to his latest Christmas card design featuring the school.  To express your interest in purchasing these cards, do please let the school office know. Prices and ordering information to follow soon.

EARLY FUNDRAISER

With Christmas, dare I say it, fast approaching it is an ideal time to download the Easy Fundraising app on your phone, and raise funds for the school without having to do anything, other than going through the app to make online purchases.

Remember businesses can use our Easy Fundraiser page too. Larger items like insurance and travel can also be purchased through the Easy Fundraiser page.

You can raise even more money by asking others to join the merry throng –  use the QR code!

How it works: Easyfundraising partners have over 7,000 brands who will donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice. It won’t cost you any extra. The cost is covered by the brand.

So why not get organised and make those Christmas purchases online through the Easy Fundraising app!

CLASS NEWS

OAK

This week has been a refreshing peek into the world of a myriad of number types. Composite numbers, square numbers, cube numbers, factors and multiples! We looked at them all. We saw a small number getting torn up and stamped on – this is the number which denotes the ‘square/power of two’ operation. We have been writing, too, as we combine our knowledge of Macbeth to produce a small piece of narrative writing. In geography, we looked at biomes and vegetation belts. In science, we look at pulleys theoretically, and hope to do our practical experiment by the end of the week. We are looking forward to having a rest over half term, and then continuing our ‘China’ topic. Well done to all those in Oak who have worked so hard this half term.

CHESTNUT

What an action-packed and varied week it has been in Chestnut Class! We finished off last week with a highly rewarding ‘Langar’ meal shared with the Preschool as part of our RE topic on Sikhism. The children baked, prepared, served and cleared up a meal for our community as a sign of equality and respect for others. The children loved it and Elsie even told us, “I felt like I was in a real Langar service serving everybody. I liked sitting in a circle on the floor because it made me feel like we were a big family”.

In English, the children have been devouring Stig of the Dump! We particularly enjoyed reading some of the text outside in a similar setting to where the story takes place.  Chestnut Class have been applying their knowledge of grammar to find the different parts of speech in the text including proper nouns, pronouns, adjectives and verbs.

Chestnut Class thoroughly enjoyed the SCARF workshop on Thursday, where the children learnt about different parts of the brain and what we can do to keep our brains happy and healthy. Chestnut Class discovered that exercise, communicating with loved ones, doing kind things for others and getting lots of sleep helps our mental health. Let’s hope we can all do these things over half term!

BEECH

This week’s book focus has been on Colour poems where the children have been using similes. The children performed those to the class and did superbly well. In Maths this week, Year 1’s have been linking our knowledge of a 100 square to filling in number lines. Year 2’s have been looking at addition and subtraction strategies for quick recall.

In other learning, the children thoroughly enjoyed their time with Harold the giraffe – talking about feelings and friendships. The lady from ‘scarf’ was super impressed with the children from Beech Class. Well Done! The children also thoroughly enjoyed exploring outside for our ‘Outdoor Learning’ session this week we have been planting pumpkin seeds and talking about what it takes to help a seed grow.

HAZEL

Another busy week in Hazel Class with a shape hunt around the school for circles and triangles and creating their own colours to paint an Autumn Harvest picture. The children have explored maps and aerial photographs of the local area and drawn their own aerial photographs; we furthered this exploration by talking about things we find in the sky and looking at different aeroplanes before making our own paper aeroplanes and launching them down the corridor. We had an excellent session with Jane and Harold the Giraffe from SCARF all about our body and what we need to be healthy. We have made a plentiful autumn harvest basket full of different fruit and vegetables using salt dough.

Please see diary dates below for two important dates, to help support your children on their phonics and maths journey.
