Dear Parents and Carers,
There are a number of new dates and information contained in this week’s newsletter, so do please scan carefully. New diary dates have been added in red as per normal. Happy reading!
The pool is now officially open and looking lovely. Mr Lowe our specialist swimming teaching joined us from 11 o’clock today, so most of the children swam.
NOTICES
Chestnut Class
I have already sent information regarding this news to parents of pupils in Chestnut class.
We will be welcoming Bryony Gardiner back from maternity leave after half term. Some may remember, prior to going on maternity leave, Ms Gardiner taught in Chestnut Class alongside Ms Babiy and then Mrs Sanda, teaching two days a week.
After half term Mrs Sanda will continue to teach Chestnut class on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with Ms Gardiner taking up the teaching on a Thursday and Friday. In the coming weeks Ms Gardiner will be joining Mrs Sanda and the children in class to enable a seamless transition, and the two members of staff will liaise closely regarding planning and the continued support of pupils within the class.
Parent/Carer Forum
All parents and carers are invited to attend a Forum on 9th May at 14.30 in the school hall, prior to our Praise and Celebrate assembly. This is an opportunity for you to share your ideas, thoughts and constructive comments, so do please come along.

We currently have one vacancy for a parent governor. Those wishing to find out more about this opportunity are encouraged to contact our clerk to the governors Catherine Dunkley-Jones, who willingly share what is involved. clerk@stowerprovost.dorset.sch.uk.

Our Monday assembly this week focused on the story of the Peacock’s Party, which is referred to in our school summer play. (Mrs B)

This term’s theme is America, and this week’s challenge was to build a burger. Our winner was Ted with his very big burger and chips.

COMMUNITY AND OTHER NEWS
CLASS NEWS
Oak Class
Pie charts and line graphs have been keeping us busy this week. In order to challenge ourselves, we jumped straight into combining them with percentages and the children did well with partner work. We completed the 2024 Spag tests which will be one of our last ones before SATS week. In English we have been performing poems about World War 2 and comparing and contrasting them. We have had a whistle stop tour through the Houses of Parliament in PSHE and looked at classification in science. Next week we are looking forward to exploring Kumbh Mela – a Hindu festival which is the biggest religious festival in the world, attracting more than 200 million worshippers. (Mrs Clasby)
Chestnut Class
In Chestnut class our historical journey took us back in time as we began exploring ancient civilizations, paying close attention to their defining characteristics and placing them on a timeline. Meanwhile, in French we practiced naming various classroom objects, expanding our vocabulary.
In Maths, we’ve continued to master both analogue and digital time, alongside focusing on different ways we measure the passage of time. Our inner scientists were ignited as we built circuits and investigated what causes the flow of energy to halt. Finally, in Computing, we’ve been unleashing our creativity by adding filters to digital images to achieve some truly interesting effects. (Mrs Sanda)
Beech Class
This week in Beech Class, the children have written their own set of instructions. In Maths, the children have been finishing off money as well as building their arithmetic skills before starting fractions next week.
During the afternoons, Beech Class have learnt about power that monarchs had/have and decided in their opinions the amount of power each monarch had. In addition to this, we have been looking at invertebrates and classified different types from arachnids to molluscs. (Mrs Whelan)
Hazel Class
This week has been filled to brim with animal knowledge and facts. The week started off with animal agility and animal jobs; the learning then moved to sorting reptiles, mammals and birds, and looking at which animals lay eggs; the week ended with sorting carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, and animal habitats.
We have investigated different types of eggs, and taken a close look at our incubating goose eggs. The children have also enjoyed caring for the chickens a checking on them in this hot weather.
Please remember to wear PE kit Mondays and Tuesdays, have Forest School clothes in school Mondays and Wednesdays, and swimming kits in school every day (these will be sent home when wet). (Miss Buxton)
