Dear All,

I have some exciting news for you! I have managed to acquire a Forest Schools teacher, Rebecca Beveridge, to help us develop part of our conservation area. This means from September and throughout the year all the children in the school will get the opportunity to participate in outdoor learning for a 6 week period.

What is Forest Schools? I hear you say. ‘A Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning’. Your children will have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others. Life is an adventure and forest schools provides the chance for children to explore the wonders of life in an outdoor setting.

For this to happen though the school needs your help please. To initially set the ‘forest school’ up we need donations of: Rope for boundary, tyres, logs and planks for seats, pallets for bug hotel, bamboo canes, pipes, old tiles and bricks.

We will also require some ‘people power’ to help Becky get it all set up. Many of you came forward to offer help earlier in the year, now is your chance! To launch this project we are going to have an ‘Outdoor learning and Den Building Day’ on Wednesday 13th July. The children will be taking part in outdoor activities all day (weather permitting) and this would also be a great time to spruce up the outside spaces and get the Forest school area ready. There are then plans in the summer to have some further works done in the outside space, but I’m not giving that away quite yet! Watch this space.

So if you are available on 13th June, some or part of the day or feel you can contribute by donating something, here is a list of items required: branches/wood 1 – 1.5metres long, rope, bungee straps, tarpaulins and old sheets.  If you have something to offer please bring it in as soon as possible.

I think it’s going to be a fantastic day.

Kind regards

Martin Marshall

Well done to the Year 3/4 /5/6  Athletics team that represented the school so well at the Yeovil in the Gillingham Area Athletics. We are the only pyramid of primary schools in North Dorset to run such an event, one I’m very proud of and takes a great deal of organisation by myself, Matt Barge and Rosie Thompson. It is a fantastic opportunity for the children of this school to be able to compete on such a stage and I hope it will continue for many years to come.

Remember if you have achieved something out of school and would like to bring it in, we will celebrate it! Look on the website for photos.

And Finally

Unfortunately the weather is not very June like at the moment and the Mini Olympics due to take place on Friday had to be postponed. It has been rearranged for 6th July. Thank you to all those who had contributed cakes and biscuits we will try again in a couple of weeks when the sun returns!
