1st October 2015

Dear All,
The shortening of the days, the amazing ‘Indian Summer’ we are enjoying and the ‘buzz ‘of the farming community
around the school lanes of late, reminds us that it is the twilight of harvest time. Although we are not
a church school it is a great time to celebrate the wonders of the harvest and the connection this gives us
with the land, the local community and the church.
I reflected upon this twice this week as I was left ‘pondering’, whilst waiting for the cows to be transferred
across the lanes! We are so lucky to live in rural Dorset and all that that offers us as a school and community.
So please come and join us next Friday 9th October as we hold our annual Harvest Assembly.
It would be great if you could be so generous to bring produce to school in the coming week. All food will be donated to the local charity ‘Trussell Trust’ foodbank. Which means that we will be helping families not go hungry in the local community. Foodbanks fed over a 1/3 million children nationwide last year! As a father of four I find that quite staggering. At the bottom of the page is a list of the types of foods that would be best to donate. Please do what you can and do join us next Friday.
Kind regards
Martin Marshall
Hall of Fame! Certificate Winners last week.
Our stars of the week were Rhada (Oaks) Ebony (Oaks), David (Chestnuts), Suki (Acorns) and Oliver (Conkers) for
respecting each other and our property. The spick and span award was awarded to Acorn class. The attendance
award went to Conkers for 99% attendance, well done to them!
Freddie (Chestnuts) brought in a certificate for air rifling shooting. He scored 9/10! Annie (Conkers)
brought her certificate for completing the summer reading challenge at the local library, fantastic!
Well done to Rhada, Archie, Rosie and Jago (Oaks) for becoming Bronze Ambassadors after a day
course at St Mary’s School Shaftesbury. They will be leading playground activity developments.
The winning house this week was Melbury with 75 points! A staggering total ,well done but well
matched by the other houses. Our overall leaders are currently Duncliffe.

Put the dates in the diary –
PTFA AGM – Please note that the PTFA AGM is Friday 9th October after the Harvest Assembly. Please see
separate letter for details. Life Education Bus is in school on Tuesday 6th October, please return the permission
slips.
Street dance starts tomorrow, we had a great return for this club! Not so for the tennis though, if your child is in
KS1 and would like to join tennis club please return the slip ASAP, thank you. Or we may have to offer it to KS2.
And Finally…..
A huge thankyou to all the parents who give up their time to listen to readers it is appreciated by all! BUT we
really need more. If you can spare a little of your time to listen to some readers between 9 -9.30, that would be
great, I think sharing a book with a child is one of the most rewarding things we do as an adult or parent.
