Newsletter 6th June 2025
June 6, 2025 Sandy Pike

Dear Parents and Carers,

Well it has been a busy first week back after the half term.

Unfortunately, I have some sad news about Mr Lowe our swimming teacher, who is unlikely to be able to return to school this term. We wish Mike the very best with his recovery, and hope to see him poolside in September. In the meantime, I am actively on the search for swimming teachers who would be able to fill Mr Lowe’s gap. I would welcome any referrals that parents and carers may have!

Praise and Celebrate Assembly

As you know, at Stower Provost, we love to use ideas generated by the children. One of our year 6’s brought in a Positive Potato to celebrate well-being and resilience. The children were so excited by this idea they decided to integrate it into the school lives of all our children. From next week, nominated children will be awarded a certificate, (designed by Elsie G), to celebrate their positivity or resilience in some kind of challenge they have faced at school. (Mrs Clasby)

Survey linked to sports clubs

I am trying to plan the next academic years sporting clubs, which at Stower Provost we offer for free, using our money from our Sport Premium budget. Working with Prime Sports we are keen to understand what activities your child might be interested in, so this can be planned and offered.

Prime Sports have asked if parents and carers would please complete the attached voting form and vote for any clubs their child would be likely to attend over the course of the 2025-26 academic year.  I thank you in advance for your help and support with this.

THIS WEEK

Lego Club

Today’s Lego Club challenge was to build an ice cream. We had some wonderful coloured ice creams but our winner was Jasper with his upturned ice cream.  (Miss Buxton)

NEXT WEEK

Year 4 and 5 children have been invited to a Larmer Tree music and poetry festival on Tuesday 10th June. Please see letter linked to this event, which has been sent separately.

Class photographs

We are hoping to take class photos on Wednesday 11th June, so please ensure your child is wearing appropriate school uniform and has a jumper and/or cardigan.

MUSIC

As many of you will know we have a number of instrumental lesson opportunities in school, these currently include piano, guitar and clarinet. Dave our clarinet teacher is also brass specialist, so I thought I would share lesson costs for those who might be interested. For those eager and in Years 3 and 4, my understanding is that due to the school purchasing whole class music lessons this academic year through Dorset Music School, instrumental hire would be free for the year.Woodwind – clarinet, flute, alto sax

Brass – trumpet/cornet, trombone, tenor horn (younger pupils), baritone horn (older pupils)
20 mins – £10
30 mins – £15
30 mins for pairs – £15 cost split

Uniform timetable

Please could swimming kit be in school daily, as we may well take the opportunity to swim on days not shown on the timetable below, depending on the swimming coaching situation.

Please note swimming kit includes: costume, towel and a swimming hat please. A hat is really important as hair does have a tendency to block the filter system, with hats reducing this issue.

Easy Fundraiser

There is no time like the present to download the Easy Fundraising app on your phone, and raise funds for the school without having to do anything, other than going through the app to make online purchases.

Remember friends, family and businesses can all use our Easy Fundraiser page too. Larger items like insurance and travel can also be purchased through the Easy Fundraiser page.

You can raise even more money by asking others to join the community fundraising effort – use the QR code!

How it works: easyfundraising partners have over 7,000 brands who will donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice. It won’t cost you any extra. The cost is covered by the brand.

So why not help the school raise money and make your online purchases through the Easy Fundraising app?!

CLASS NEWS

Oak Class

Oak class have had a visit from the moderators this week, who are sent out to selected schools by the local council. As a result of the visit, Oak class will be busy honing their writing skills ready for another moderation in a couple of weeks! In maths, we have been exploring negative numbers in various guises and finding out their real-world applications with Mrs Rowley. In RE, we have been looking at some stories from the Bible and considering how God is portrayed in them. In PE, the children were running relays and going over small hurdles. Next week, we are looking forward to continuing our studies of selected and inherited characteristics in science. (Mrs Clasby)

Chestnut Class

This week, we have been busy across the curriculum!

In Maths, we started tackling the world of money, working with pounds and pence. It’s been fantastic to see everyone enthusiastically creating and solving their own word problems involving finances.

Our young scientists turned their attention to electricity, investigating plugs and the crucial role of the three core wires. We focused on understanding safety aspects and the properties of conductive materials.

As historians, we journeyed back to Ancient Sumer, exploring the intricacies of its societal hierarchy and the diverse roles individuals played within that ancient civilization.

Finally, in English, our Egyptian adventure continued! We further developed our understanding of metaphors as we crafted descriptive diary entries, enhancing our writing skills. (Mrs Sanda)

Beech Class

This week in Beech Class, the children have been starting to explore hibernation in English in order to start to compose a non-chronological report about what hibernation is as well as animals that hibernate.  In Maths, the children have been continuing to do superb work with finding fractions amounts and shapes before we move onto time next week.

During the afternoons, Beech Class have learnt about Alfred the Great and his impact on England. In addition to this, we have been doing lots of great work in DT with some excellent sewing skills being displayed. (Mrs Whelan)

Hazel Class

It was wonderful to hear about all the children’s adventures from half term. The children have enjoyed the start of our new topic ‘On the Beach’. We have investigated photos of seaside scenes in the past, with the children observing that ‘they enjoyed knitting’ and wearing ‘big swimming costumes’. We have also talked about staying safe in the sun, with the children talking about all the things needed when they go to the beach, including a hat, sun cream and lifeguard. The Busy Bees this week have been well used with herb and citrus potion making, pirate treasure hidden in the sand tray, ice cream making and using the life boat toys to rescue people. (Miss Buxton)
