Dear Parents and Carers

The children were, once again, a real credit to the school yesterday in their Sports Day. Throughout their circuits and swimming activities in the morning and the more traditional sports events in the afternoon, everyone tried their hardest and showed true team spirit. After a nail-biting finish, congratulations go to Melbury for achieving the highest number of points during the day.

We still have our annual totting up of House Points to do, which will be announced next week.

Thank you for all the positive comments regarding this year’s annual reports on your children’s progress. We are very pleased with the way the children have improved through the year, and have already started working on ways in which we can do things even better next year, taking your thoughts into account.

Next week continues to be a busy end to the term, culminating in the Leavers’ Assembly on Wednesday 25th July at 2:15pm. Children in Year 6 are then invited to stay after school for a last swim in the pool, followed by a cream tea with the staff. I hope they will all be able to come.

Staffing Update

A number of changes have been made to the staffing structure in the school which mean that, at the end of the term, in addition to Mrs Burpitt leaving, we will be saying good bye to Mrs Crossman as our lunchtime supervisor, and to Mrs Hudson as my colleague in Oak Class. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work and dedication to the school in these roles and wish levitra generic europe them well for the future.

In September, therefore, Mrs Symonds will be teaching Hazel Class with Years R, 1 and 2. Miss Gale will be teaching Chestnut Class with Year 3 and 4. The oldest of the children in Year 2 will spend the mornings in Chestnut Class, returning to Hazel Class in the afternoon.

Mrs Clasby, who is new to the school, will be sharing the teaching of Oak Class with me. Mrs Clasby will be in for the beginning of each week, and I will teach them on Thursdays and Fridays, allowing me to carry out my headteacher role on the other days. She is coming to work with the current year 4 and 5 children (our class for next year) on Tuesday afternoon and will be staying at the end of the school day to talk to any of the parents who wish to meet her.

Each class will continue to benefit from teaching assistant support during the week, with Mrs Cross, Miss Stone, Ms Peat and Mrs Lewis working variously across the school in class, at lunchtimes and in Breakfast Club.

Stars of the Week

This week we did not award individuals as we felt the children had all worked so well together in their classes or teams throughout the week. Well done to everyone.

I hope many of you will be able to make this evening’s PTFA Barbecue, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, where in addition to the barbecue food, you will be able to enjoy the nail painting, bouncy castle, circus skills or bar, depending on your interests (and age!)
