On Friday, we were treated to a visit from a local thatcher called Tim Hyde. The children have been learning about different types of houses through our Traditional Tales, and Tim very kindly showed the children how he makes a thatched roof. Tim talked about the different tools he uses, such as a leggett and a nose; and showed the children how he pins the straw down using hazel branches.
